Club House 2010 (July 2010) - Crammed full of club floor goodness - 17 tunes in 80mins. These tracks have been rocking the dancefloor for the last 6 months or so - quite litterally in some cases as there are plenty of old classics revamped for the the new decade in here - along with some tasty newbies. |
For Shits'n' Giggles Mix The Sequel (May 2010) - Just a bunch of mash-ups and bits'n'pieces that I can't seem to fit in anywhere else. |
Return of the Hardstyle (Jan 2010) - Bangin', reach for the lasers hardstyle. All new for 2010, and one of the hot genre's for the new year. What I do best apparently. |
Dirty One 30's (Dec 2009) - There is a bit of a lack of tunes in the 132-138 bpm range and so this mix is a collection of tunes from that range (hence the Dirty One 30's name - nothing to do with ages AT ALL). Some new tunes here, some remixes of (very) old classics, proggy trancy house (with even a bit of breaky beaty stuff thrown in). |
A Mixed Bag of House (Oct 2009) - As the title says this has a bit of everything house-wise - some funky, some vocal club, some progessive and some electro - cloocking in at over 1 hour and 30mins of tasty, genre hopping, house tunes. Addding in a bit of the prophet Bill Hicks just to add a bit of spice. |
For Shits'n' Giggles Mix (May 2009) - no particular genre - some of it is not even really dance music just some shit I like. |
Electro Takes It Back Mix (May 2009) - Was listening to some of the newer electro house tracks I had, planning on doing one last electro house mix before it all gets a bit too old hat, and ended up with this, which is actually mostly electro house versions/covers of some older classic stuff, with one or two newer tracks thrown in. |
Return of the Funky (April 2009) - Having grown a little tired of the whole electro house vibe, I slung together this mix of some freash funky tunes. Hopefully we'll see a return of a more funky house vibe over the next year or so. |
Searchin' for Something Harder (April 2009) - Done in April 2009, decided I needed to do a mix of some harder stuff that I had a yearning to spin. Probably appeal to those of you who like it bangin' hard'n'fast... - enjoy. |
My House Rules - Part 2 (Jan 2009) - A few months on from My House Rules Part 1 and I had collected another batch of house tunes that I like to think made the dance floor move and shake. Some I got to first others were ones that other DJ's spun before I did but I loved anyway - respect! |
My House Rules - Part 1 (Aug 2008) - This and Part 2 which I did a few months later was a semi-summary of the house tunes I was lovin' during most of 2008. The first track is one of my remixes of a track I loved, but pumped up for the house set - bonus points to anyone who spots the original version in another mix I've done and released here. |
Taking You Higher (Jan 2007) - Ahhh some vocal trance or pop trance - whatever you like to call it. Reach for the lasers! |
MFL (Apr 2006) - Uplifting vocal driven trance - there is a theme in this one. At the time this was a very personal mix. |
Bangin' Vocals (Dec 2005) - Following on the release of the last mix I did before I left Dunedin, this is the last mix I did before Play closed. |
Summer House 2005 Volume 1 (Nov 2005) - A collection of 3 volumes of some of the best house tunes from 2005 as far as I am concerned. This first volume has the most summer feel, cheerful, funky tunes, perfect for drinking Corona in the sun on a balcony somewhere. |
Summer House 2005 Volume 2 (Nov 2005) - This second volume, is more a guitar driven, harder sounding vibe - hearalding the on-coming wave of electro house. Somewhat darker, but capable of lifting you very, very high - contains probably one of my favourite house tunes from this time - the Laurent Knorad mix of Moby's Beautiful (second track in). |
Summer House 2005 Volume 3 (Nov 2005) - The final of this set, and taking a more soulful turn, especially with the first track, Give It by X-Press 2 featuring Kurt Wagner, whose gospel chrous is timeless. |
Trance 2005 (Aug 2005) - A mixed bag of trance from 2005 here. Some epic uplifting trancers, some vocal trance and some pure Hi-NRG floor fillers to stomp along to. For some reason 2005 seems a bit blurry... |
The Short Hard Mix (Apr 2005) - Here's something just a little faster than I normally play - surer to wake you up than a triple extra strength shot of caffeinated beverage of your choice. Not sure but I think I was pining for the good 'ol days of happy hardcore when I did this - clockin' in at just over 42mins of pulse raising goodness - booyakka! |
Play Hard (Apr 2005) - A harder edged mix from my nights at Play, this is definitely a hands in the air reach for the lasers mix. Features what would sort of become my theme song for the next 3-4 years, Alex Fakey - Painted Black. |
Play Time (Feb 2005) - The companion to the Play Hard mix, this is a more "commerically" driven mix of banging tunes. Plenty of hands in the air moments here. |
Wixmix's Xmas Mix (Dec 2004) - The only excuse for this mix is that, a) I had a bunch of Xmas songs remixed as dance tracks and b) we had to be open Xmas Eve at Play that year and I just wanted to drink not expecting anyone to come (I was right). I recall the staff (i.e. Mike) wasn't impressed with this - but here it is :) |
Funky 2004 (Jul 2004) - A collection of funky house tunes from the 2004 - some classics of the time and some lesser known gems in here. |
The New Mix (May 2004) - No real title for this one - just listed as a new mix from 2004. Vocal driven trance mostly, some uplifting tunes and plenty of bouncy floor filling goodness - go the "donk"! |
What Is Sin? (Apr 2003) - The only mix of mine from 2003 - this is chock full of bouncy, Hi-NRG, floor filling goodness. Another check point in the sound at Play, this contains a bunch of tracks that will familar to anyone that was downing cheap tequila at Play during 2003. |
Hard In The House 2002 (Oct 2002) - Ahh 2002 the year Play opened, this mix is the companion to Summer House Grooves 2002 below, and the two combined were the starting point for the music that would be be the "Play sound" - if there was such a thing. |
Summer House Grooves 2002 (Sep 2002) - A funky collection of house grooves from like ages ago. Some future classics in there as well as remixes and gems that didn't get the attention they deserved. Apologies for those suffering from Michael Jackson overdose at the moment for probably the best Billie Jean remix in the last 10 years (and there is one at least once every 12 months). |
Hard in the House (Nov 2001) - A mix of harder house and trance from the first year of the 21st century. Some remixes of tunes from the 90's in here, as well as new stuff, and the fact that this was done leading up to Xmas can be the only explanation for the inclusion of an Xmas themed final track - heh heh. |
The Truth (Jul 2000) - The last mix I did before I left Dunedin. Features tracks from the then unknown Darude. Vocal trance that was back then called hard house. Boom boom boom! |
Let The Big Beat Flow (Mar 2000) - My one and only hip-hop mix. Combines my love of classic hip-hop with similar sounding tracks from around the end of the 90's. There are some classic tracks in there as wellas newer tracks (well new in 2000). "I just lay back and let the big beat leave me" - Jungle Brothers..... respect! |
Grange Street Sessions - Part 1 (Dec 1999) - Ahh the Grange Street Studio (or the room in the flat were we stored all the lighting equipment and had the decks set up). Scene of many a party involving speed mixing sessions and of course where the two Dance FM hosted shows were recorded. The Grange Street Sessions pretty much capture 1999 and Dance FM - or at least my part of it. |
Grange Street Sessions - Part 2 (Dec 1999) - Anybody who remembers my Essential Selection show on Dance FM - raise your hands! Also shout out to those people who were guests - whether as DJ's, or just in the studio when I was recording the shows and I made say something into the mic. Ahh the memories - some of them fairly blurred, especially the shows recorded over summer 1999/2000. |
Loaded (Nov 1999) - This was done by request for a couple of fans from the Loaded Goblin for their drive back to Auckland from Otago Uni at the end of the year - hence the reason it veers quite wildly all over the place. Listen to it and all the '99 memories come flooding back! |
Big Beat Mix (Oct 1998) - This one is pretty ancient, dated it as October 1998, but probably done earlier - I do know I did it for Radio 1 in Dunedin as they wanted me to stand in as a DJ one time but I couldn't as I was DJing elsewhere (Loaded Goblin probably). Anyway, gave them this mix of juicy big beats to play - mixing is pretty rough though. This may also have served as a prototype for the mix that got me invited to play at the Gathering at the end of the year. |
